Reading for Pleasure

At Bucklesham Primary School we are invested in promoting reading for pleasure. We follow the research from the Open University, National Literacy Trust and English Association to help foster a love of reading in our children, particular the Teachers as Readers (TaRs) project by Cremin et al., (2014).

The Suffolk Teachers' Readers Group (TRG) funded by the OU/UKLA is hosted at the school and supports teachers across the county to develop RfP (Reading for Pleasure) in their schools, based on the five findings from the TaRs research. Our Early Reading lead has developed several projects at the school, these can be read below.

As well as our daily reading for pleasure in class, we host whole school events, such as Booknics, Snuggle with a Book, parent and child book club, a weekly library book club, and as part of the FCBG we take part in the National Children's Book Award. We have a lively staff community of readers who share books with each other and blether about them regularly. All of this is shared on our termly reading newsletter - Bucklesham Bookworms.

We want children to leave our school being able to read, and also wanting to read!
